One-on-One mentoring in composition, songwriting and musical theater writing

Whether you're developing a first idea, refining a finished work, or exploring new creative directions, one-on-one mentoring provides thoughtful guidance tailored to your individual goals.

How does music come into being?

My work as a composer, educator, and lecturer is grounded in this question. Whether we're exploring a Rodgers & Hart standard, a Joni Mitchell song, or a contemporary concert work by Philip Glass, we'll examine how musical ideas are developed into finished works. I don't impose a method. I adapt my teaching to the person in front of me, the work they're trying to create, and the questions they're trying to answer.

In our sessions, you can expect to:

  • Bring a song, lyric, idea, or work in progress.

  • Receive thoughtful, detailed feedback tailored to your goals.

  • Strengthen your command of craft, structure, melody, harmony, dramatic function, and creative process.

  • Leave with practical next steps and renewed creative direction.

MY APPROACH

If you'd like to discuss your goals, ask questions, or explore whether creative mentoring is right for you, I'd be happy to hear from you.
